It can be confusing knowing who to see but it all comes down to the type of clients and the level of education.
- EP’s specialise in exercise prescription for chronic conditions and illnesses. These are medium and long term. Chronic conditions have been ongoing for several months. EP’s will also see clients prior to certain surgeries and treatments to strengthen the area in preparation.
- Physio’s specialise in acute injuries and conditions, meaning those that have very recently occurred. Physio’s are able to diagnose, whereas EP’s as not diagnosticians.
- Both EP’s and Physio’s are Allied Health professionals and can be employed in hospitals, doctors offices, and private settings. They are also both educated at a tertiary level with between three and five years of study at bachelor and master levels. Some chose to continue on into PHD’s.
- Physio’s and EP’s work together, with a clients often seeing both along their journey.
- Personal trainers are equipped to work with healthy populations in providing tailored exercise plans. A personal trainer can be accredited in 12 weeks.
